On Formentera, the hippie markets started to appear at the beginning of the 20th-century’s seventies. They are now a reminiscence of the hippie era. Generally, the artisans acquired gems for jewelry on their trips to India, returned in the summer to the island and sold their creations to tourists.
Gradually, their stands occupied public spaces and ended up being regulated.
