An artists’ island

Since the second half of the 20th century, Formentera has been a haven and an inspiration for artists. They found here the ideal place for the development of their creativity. In Formentera, there is enough amplitude of mind for modern and contemporary art so artists can express themselves without ties.

Not only do the islands residents continue creating art, the new show rooms make it possible to expand the invitation to exhibit even to national as well as international creators.

In the town of Sant Francesc there is the Ayuntament Vell (the former Town Hall) and also the Centro Cultural Antoni Tur ‘Gabrielet’. The latter is dedicated more to handicraft. But without doubt, the main novelty is to have won back the La Mola lighthouse for cultural activities.

Here, in addition to the permanent exhibition about maritime light signals, there is a room dedicated to temporary exhibitions. With continuous exhibitions in those spaces, art is always present on the island.
