The most traditional constructions of Ibiza which today are part of the island’s cultural heritage are the result of the different civilisations that have populated the island throughout its history.
The Renaissance walls of Dalt Vila, declared a World Heritage Site, the defence towers, distributed along the coast of the island as a surveillance system in the 16th century, or the fortified churches are a samples of a heritage that is preserved on Ibiza.
Even so, whitewashed houses, with simple shapes and thick walls, are the flagship legacy of this tradition that has passed from generation to generation. The island also houses wells, water reservoirs of Arab origin, Portals de Feixa as well as wind and water mills, which swell the list of culturally interesting goods and form part of the most authentic and genuine landscape of the island.
