The island of Ibiza is a paradise for exercising any type of sport. The excellent weather throughout the year is ideal for athletes of all categories, including high-performance sports. For this reason, Ibiza is the perfect territory to host high-level competitions and sporting events which experience a great international response.
In 2019, the island was the scene for different national competitions in the field of running and cycling, such as the Ibiza Marathon, the Tour of Ibiza on MTB, the Ibiza Half Marathon or the Ibiza Trail Marathon, among others. They bring thousands of participants to the island. In addition, and as every year during Holy Week, Ibiza receives the boats of different lengths that participate in the Ruta de la Sal, one of the most important open sea regattas in the Mediterranean, which links the ports of Barcelona or Denia with the Ibizan Island.
In 2019, Ibiza also hosted the Trial des Nations, in which national teams competed for the world title. In total, the island hosted 85 riders from 19 countries, who offered a great show of motorbike mastery in natural environments. Scuba diving, kayaking, different types of surfing, hiking, nordic-walking, climbing or yoga are also sports that have their space and their followers on the island.
Lovers of walking routes have paths that border the sea or run through the interior, in the countryside, to enjoy alone, in groups or with specialised agencies that offer their own excursions.
Likewise, and throughout the winter months, the different municipalities and sports clubs organise competitions that have become essential appointments for the residents. Sport as a new way of sightseeing and discovering a destination like Ibiza allows you to enjoy the island outside the summer season.
